Capstone 2019 Dev Blog 8 - GDC Week + More

Work from 3/8/2019 - 3/22/2019

This sprint was a little funky. It was two weeks long, the first week happening to be Spring break and the second week being the week of GDC, so we were put with the choice to spend one week's worth of work into one of the weeks. Considering I went to GDC, it meant putting the work into Spring break, which ended up being a smaller workload than usual. However, even with that considered, what I got done was visually very significant to the UI of our game!

Bios Scrolling

The bios screen functionality was already set up, but it didn't exactly work like we wanted it to. We imagined a screen that scrolls like the home screen of a phone, where it snaps to a group of elements on each scroll. So flicking the screen will bring the icons from one side to the other.


Implemented Conversation Art

Based on mock-ups that our UI artist made, I arranged assets and added them in place to send back to her where she added fonts and adjusted the spacing of a few different elements. The result is the below image.


A Guide for Writing Conversations

Since most of the special commands for our conversation system was only explained within the scripts themselves, I wrote explanations of what those commands did for our narrative team to know how to fully write conversations on their own.
